Vice-President of the European Commission for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight, Maroš Šefčovič, visited companies JAVYS and JESS in Jaslovské Bohunice on 16 September, 2022.

The Commissioner and his team completed a visit of the V1 NPP turbine hall premises in Jaslovské Bohunice, the decommissioning of which has been co-financed from the EU funds, followed by an inspection of the Interim Spent Fuel Storage facility and a building of a new, more modern, the so-called Dry Storage Facility. Members of the delegation were also interested in the mission and activities of the company, which were presented to them in a short video about the V1 NPP decommissioning process.

The delegation members were initially accompanied by the CEO of company JAVYS, Pavol Štuller, who informed them about the progress made in the V1 NPP decommissioning (V1 NPP decommissioning is co-financed from the European funds), the experience that JAVYS personnel has gained from the decommissioning process of nuclear power plants and radioactive waste processing, but also about how the company has been sharing knowledge not only at the European level.

The CEO at JESS, Roman Sporina, with the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Rastislav Podhorec, presented the activities of company JESS, including the information on the new nuclear power plant project, preparation of a new OZE project, the objective of which is the production of electricity from renewable sources and green hydrogen production project, to the visitors’ team. They also spoke about the purpose of the project - production of green hydrogen from electricity from the photovoltaic power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice and its effective use primarily in the public bus transport system in Slovakia. Moreover, the aspects of hydrogen use in the wider European area were debated during the visit. At the end of the visit, everyone had the opportunity to see and test drive the hydrogen bus made in Slovakia and Toyota Mirai hydrogen car, which was lent by the SIEA agency.

I am very happy that my colleagues could witness the expertise, scientific knowledge and ingenuity of Slovak experts," Maroš Šefčovič wrote in the visitors' book.
