Slovakia will exchange experience with the Czech Republic in the process of deep repository development intended for disposal of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. Memorandum of Understanding was signed today between company JAVYS, a. s., and SÚRAO at the ENEF conference.

At the ENEF 2018 (European Nuclear Energy Forum) conference, held under the auspices of the European Commission on the 4th and 5th of June 2018, top representatives of Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS) and Radioactive Waste Repository Authority (SÚRAO) of the Czech Republic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today.

The MoP is the result of intensive mutual cooperation that these two companies have established. Its aim is to exchange information and experience from the field of R&D in the process of deep repository construction, which will allow for the optimization of the whole process and its efficiency in terms of economic and time requirements.

At the same time, requirements of the National Policies and the National Programme for the Management of SNF and RAW in the Slovak Republic and requirements contained in Council Directive 2011/70 / EURATOM are being met.
Development of a deep repository is the final stage in activities related to the complex spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and radioactive waste (RAW) management aiming at the construction of a deep repository for disposal of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, which cannot be disposed of at a currently operated near surface National Radwaste Repository in the Slovak Republic.
Slovakia, as one of the few member states of the European Union, has a comprehensive infrastructure in all areas of the nuclear power industry, i.e. also its back-end cycle, which is provided in Slovakia by company JAVYS, a.s., implementing complex processes of decommissioning of A1 and V1 nuclear power plants, spent nuclear fuel management, radioactive waste management, institutional RAW and collected radioactive materials management. Its reputation is based on high expertise and quality and it is a relevant partner for both domestic and foreign companies, which especially appreciate a guaranteed professional approach with long-term professional experience.
No country in Europe has a deep repository currently under operation. In Slovakia, this type of repository should be constructed by 2065.
