On Thursday, the 21st of December 2023, the fourth and last transport of final products from the processing of radioactive waste of the Italian company SOGIN was performed from Jaslovské Bohunice to Italy. All four transports were carried out during December 2023.

Company JAVYS, a. s., processed 848 tonnes of solidified spent resins and radioactive sludge for the Italian company SOGIN, S.p.A. After the radioactive waste (RAW) had been processed at JAVYS site, one hundred pieces of the final product from the RAW treatment were transported back to Italy by a contracted certified international transporter, the final product being a moulded mixture of ash from the incineration of radioactive waste and crushed metallic material, conditioned using the cementation in a 440 litre CC440 package form.

The waste was processed for the Italian company on the basis of a contract concluded between JAVYS, a.s., Jaslovské Bohunice and the Italian company SOGIN, S.p.A. Processing of the Italian radioactive waste was carried out in JAVYS, a. s. between 2019 and 2023 at the Nuclear Facility for Treatment and Conditioning of Radioactive Waste, on site in Jaslovské Bohunice. Solidified spent resins and radioactive sludge treated by incineration came from the Italian nuclear power plant, from the Caorso site. Transport of the final product back to Italy was carried out on the basis of a permit issued by the Slovak Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

The same activity was exported to the country of origin (under the supervision of the competent authorities) during the four transports of the final products as imported in the radioactive waste intended for processing, in compliance with effective legislation.
