Company JAVYS has been requested nine times to collect the radioactive materials of unknown origin in 2023, the heaviest piece being a ten-kilogram kids’ tricycle. It was located at the Horní Hričov collection centre and was an older, homemade transportation device exhibiting the presence of radium.
Collections of radioactive materials of unknown origin are carried out in cooperation with the units of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Transport and Construction and Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic. Company JAVYS ensures the activities of tracking/searching, identifying and documenting the RMUO at the place of their reported occurrence. These materials are usually found at the collection centres or metallic scrap processors. After they have been identified and documented, radioactive materials of unknown origin are transported for further management to Jadrová a vyraďovacia spoločnosť, a.s. Materials meeting the limits for disposal at the National RadWaste Repository (NRR) in Mochovce are continuously processed and conditioned into a safe package form – fibre-concrete container and then transported to the NRR for disposal, thus definitively isolating them from the environment.
In 2023, mostly different agricultural and military components, dials of older measuring instruments and tools as well as fire detectors were collected.
