Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have extended their joint Collaborating Centre operation for the period of 2025 to 2029. The decision follows on from the centre´s success between 2021 and 2025, during which JAVYS actively contributed to the development of professional capacities in the field of nuclear facilities decommissioning, radioactive waste management and spent nuclear fuel management.

The decision follows on from the centre´s success between 2021 and 2025, during which JAVYS actively contributed to the development of professional capacities in the field of nuclear facilities decommissioning, radioactive waste management and spent nuclear fuel management.

“The extension of collaboration between JAVYS and the International Atomic Energy Agency is proof that our company has established a strong position in the international community. This confirms not only the expertise of our employees, but also the high level of technology and processes that we apply in the field of decommissioning and managing Slovakia's nuclear 'legacy'," said Peter Gerhart, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JAVYS. "This partnership also brings significant benefits for our country – from strengthening professional capacities to increasing Slovakia's credibility on a global level," added Miroslav Obert, CEO of JAVYS.

The official Agreement signing ceremony took place on September 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna during the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference. The ceremony was attended by senior representatives of company JAVYS, IAEA, Nuclear Regulatory Authority of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, and other distinguished guests from the domestic and international nuclear community.

Between 2025 and 2029, the Collaborating Centre will focus on organising professional seminars and workshops, providing internships for foreign experts, preparing professional contributions to international databases and delivering thematic presentations. The aim is to strengthen the exchange of lessons learned and knowledge, support the training of experts and further enhance Slovakia's international credibility in the field of nuclear energy and decommissioning.
