Today, Jadrová a vyraďovacia spoločnosť, a.s. (Nuclear and Decommissioning Company) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE), a Chinese state-run institution that ranks among the most important nuclear research and development centres in Asia. The memorandum was signed during a working visit by a JAVYS delegation to Beijing and establishes a framework for long-term technical cooperation in the areas of nuclear facilities decommissioning, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, and other areas of nuclear energy.
The memorandum builds on a series of expert meetings and technical discussions that began during the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna in 2025. These led to a technical visit by the IAEA experts to JAVYS, where the partners focused primarily on risk management, decommissioning of nuclear facilities, radioactive waste management, and opportunities for further cooperation in the field of nuclear technologies.

Our experience with the decommissioning of nuclear facilities, radioactive waste treatment, and management of spent nuclear fuel is now recognized even outside of Europe. We are pleased that partners from countries with one of the most ambitious nuclear programmes in the world are also showing interest in Slovak know-how,” said Miroslav Obert, CEO of company JAVYS, a.s.
The cooperation will focus primarily on technical research and development in the field of nuclear facilities decommissioning and radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management, sharing of specialized skills, provision of consulting and design services, as well as technical discussions regarding the design, operation, and future decommissioning of fast reactors. The memorandum also provides a framework for joint technical seminars, working meetings, exchange visits by experts, and other forms of technical cooperation. The signed memorandum further strengthens JAVYS’s position among internationally respected organizations involved in the field of nuclear energy’s back-end activities.
The company is thus continuing to implement its strategy of developing international cooperation and exporting Slovak expertise in the field of nuclear facilities decommissioning and radioactive waste management. The CIAE is the largest and most comprehensive nuclear research centre in the People’s Republic of China. The institute employs more than 3,200 staff members, including approximately 700 leading scientists, and operates several unique nuclear facilities, including the CARR research reactor and the CEFR experimental sodium-cooled fast reactor. It also carries out significant activities in the areas of spent nuclear fuel reprocessing, development of technologies for radioactive waste management, nuclear safety, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
